Each year, SISE members
adopts needy families for the holidays,
providing food and gifts for each member of
those families.
This year
Soroptimist International of Suburban Essex
provided gifts for two families. We worked with
Louise Eagle of GRANDMA K.A.R.E.S. who provided
the wish lists for two families who
are being raised by grandmothers.
Below is an
e-mail received from Louise right after she
delivered our gifts (which included a $300 gift
card to Shop Rite to help make their Holiday
dinner a bit more festive) to one of the
families for Christmas 2008. Both families were extremely grateful
as they may have not had any gifts at all if not
for the generosity of our members.
"I know I have to send a formal
snail / mail letter, but I just could not wait
until after Christmas. I delivered the first
family's gifts and I was afraid the woman was
going to have a heart attack! She grabbed her
chest (Fred Sanford style) and just kept yelling
"Oh My God!" when she opened the gift card. She
was absolutely blown away. The gifts will be all
the children will get for Christmas, and are
more than adequate. I can't wait until the
weather improves so I can deliver the second
blessing." Love, love, love, Louise
